Known as the cubist town, Olhão has an architecture that is all its own, the small square white washed houses with their rooftop terraces are believed to have been created through contact with the Moors and Morroco.    The winding streets and narrow alleys, the busy pedestrianised main street with shops and cafes all give you a glimpse into the lives of the local inhabitants. Olhão is known as the best place in the Algarve to eat fresh seafood, in August it hosts the annual seafood festival with music and seafood in every shape and form. Olhão boasts the biggest open air market  in the Algarve, with an impressive fish market and local farmers selling regional products. It is a lively market town set right in the middle of  the Ria Formosa Nature Park. It has ferryboats sailing regularly to  three islands, Armona, Kulatra and Farol. Olhão has many seafood restaurants and a pretty promenade along the sea front with stunning views over the Ria Formosa. You can stop for a fresh squeezed orange juice and watch the fishing boats coming and going, have a lunch of fish caught that very morning, or take a guided boat tour of the Ria Formosa Nature Park. Why not spend a day in Tavira, a mere 40mins by train from hostel33, it boasts some of the most beautiful architecture in the Algarve. It is a unique historical town with a beautiful island beach, friendly locals and lively nightlife. Why not spend a day there wandering around the lovely town centre, climbing the observation tower for a guided historical tour, admiring the 18th century architecture, visiting the castle and enjoy the stunning views from the turrets. Treat yourself to a coffee and a slice of cake by the roman bridge, and then hop on a boat to the island. Tavira island is a long stretch of white sand, speckled with shells, the water is calm and great for swimming. Shoals of sardines often pass by you as you swim. Try some of the Algarves great seafood in one of the many restaurants on the island or sip a cocktail and watch the sun go down in one of the beach bars before you head back to cosy hostel33 in faro for another fun-filled evening!
